tv & film: "this is the greatest performance i’ve ever encountered and i’ve worked with big bad julia [roberts]" richard curtis (director of LOVE ACTUALLY)

Even though he’s best known for being on the radio, Wes Butters is also on TV quite a bit too. He’s appeared a lot on kids TV like Trouble, Nickelodeon and CBBC on XChange, The Saturday Show and Top of the Pops Saturday. There was also a well publicised rumour last year that he was going into the jungle on I’m A Celebrity

As part of his breakfast show in 2006 Wes Butters gave away an extra part in the 4th season of Shameless but he blagged his way onto the set himself. What he didn’t realise was that the scene was a gay bar and he had to look the part

Anyone who’s been on Never Mind The Buzzcocks will tell you that it’s a ridiculously scary experience. It’s one of the coolest TV shows going and funny as, but when you’re the one sat next to Bill Bailey or trying to be as funny as Mark Lamar, then it’s a serious headfunch … Wes Butters appeared on it in 2004 with Fatman Scoop and Gary Jules

Watch Wes Butters speaking words (in English) and see his spikey hair again (RIP)
Walleed, you numbskull

Natasha Kaplinsky was ill one day and Wes Butters stood in

Wes Butters is very proud of his role in Love Actually and manages to drop it into the conversation if the words ‘Hugh Grant’, ‘Love’ or ‘Actually’ are mentioned. He was asked to appear in the film by its writer/director Richard Curtis and recorded his lines in a post-production suite in Ladbroke Grove, London. Curtis himself directed Wes and wrote the above about his acting. Even Bill Nighy was complimentary: “Such a gas to work with you, we should do it again sometime.”

Matt Goss (off of Bros) asked Wes Butters if he’d do a cameo in his new music video 'I need the key' which was also going to feature a few of his other mates such as Craig Charles and Abi Titmuss. Matt cast him as a ’dirty milkman’ and had to do a load of retakes ‘cos he’d keep cracking up when he saw Wes emerge with knickers round his neck and lip marks all over his face

Doing early breakfast on Radio 1 in January 2005 Wes Butters played his studio demo of his Crazy Frog record 'Ring Ding Dong'. When Chris Moyles heard it, and gave it a spin on his breakfast show, Wes got offered a deal by Gut Records. The timing was perfect because as soon as he stopped presenting the Top 40 the CD came out and he got to number 11, spending 5 weeks on the chart
