Upon winning my gorgeous Sony award for Wes @ Breakfast, the judges were kind enough to describe me as "a true radio natural who knows exactly how to pitch to his audience. He does great interviews, cool stunts and is a quality presenter." God bless 'em.
The big break. In late 2002, when BBC Radio 1 announced that Mark Goodier was leaving the station, the media went into a frenzy trying to work out who'd host the prestigious UK Top 40 next. Big name presenters were banded about in the press but it was revealed in December that an unknown 22 year old had been chosen.
The Official Chart Show with Wes
I was the 9th presenter of the UK Top 40 on Radio 1, following on from Alan Freeman, Tom Browne, Tony Blackburn, Tommy Vance, Simon Bates, Richard Skinner, Bruno Brookes & Mark Goodier.
The Chris Moyles Show
Every Monday at 7.30am I recapped the latest chart, usually naked from my bed, live to the nation. This is a clip of me doing it half an hour after presenting the early breakfast show and returning home.
Are you still with it?
This is a feature I did with famous old legends such as Jimmy Saville and Johnny Ball. This episode stars Mollie Sugden who played Mrs Slocombe in Are You Being Served?
Vernon Kay's Happy Hour
Vernon Kay got to do his first show in a pub and had a challenge for me.

Love the show, Steve! Here's one I did earlier on Steve Wright in the Afternoon recently.
Steve Wright in the Afternoon
My thanks to Steve and Tim for a great time and a great interview.
Since 2008 I've focussed more on producing and writing documentaries. My latest BBC Radio 4 commission, which I also present, is a documentary on Charles Hawtrey.
The Pain of Laughter - The Last Days of Kenneth Williams (Part 1)
"Exquisite anecdotes ... a programme well researched and slickly presented by Rob Brydon" (The Guardian).
The Pain of Laughter - The Last Days of Kenneth Williams (Part 2)
"A fantastic selection of archive clips and fascinatingly candid interviewees" (Radio Times).
Twice Ken is Plenty: The Lost Script
"It was an exercise worth undertaking: it was pure Pirandello, if you want to be poncy about it, mostly involving Horne and Williams trying to get a show together" (The Independent).
Charles Hawtrey: That Funny Fella with the Glasses
"Wes Butters's investigation of the life of CH was excellent" (The Observer). 4 out of 4 stars (Daily Mail).
Thankfully when BBC Radio 7 re-branded to Radio 4 Extra I was kept on as an announcer. I feel most happy here, lots of classic comedy and drama that I genuinely love.
Birthday Broadcasting on 4 Extra
A short compilation of a few links from 4 May 2011, the day I turned 32.

This compilation includes an interview with Ardal O'Hanlon. Nice bearded man.
BBC World Service
My first outing on the BBC World Service was as Steve Wright’s stand-in on Wright Around the World. I was regularly heard on Top of the Pops and was the voice of Live 8 for the network.
Not only did the listening figures for Wes @ Breakfast break all previous records, we picked up a raft of awards and nominations, including Best Breakfast Show at the Sony Awards, industry magazine X-Trax's North West Presenter of the Year, and Best Presenter at the Arqiva Awards.
